I chose this print because it is my favorite one so far. My eye immediately goes to the tiny patch of light grass sticking up almost right in the center of the print. I really like the depth and darkness you feel from underneath the leaves. I believe that is what makes the grass stand out more on top of the photo having a nice contrast overall. I like the shapes that form from negative space around the leaves, specifically I see a couple of circles. The photo was taken at a slight downward angle almost parallel to the ground. I would consider this to be a free-form picture of nature which I particularly enjoy.
There are multiple repetitions of a specific form in this photo which would be the leaves. Although my eye goes right to that patch of grass in the middle of the photo, it is based on these dry leaves. The leaves are spaced out and scattered evenly across the entire print which moves the eye all around.
This photo makes me feel rather lost and kind of sad. I get the feeling of being lost because nothing in this photo indicates where it has been taken due to it being so close up. I could be at my house, I could be at a park, I could be on a random patch of grass three states away, etc. I get a feeling of sadness as well when viewing this photo because the leaves and the grass are so dry and dead. There is no life to this photo, not even a small insect. In order to keep from feeling complete sadness/depression, I chose to keep the background light and hazy rather than burning it to make it dark and mysterious. I wanted to keep a little bit of brightness within the print.
This photo made me learn that I photograph based on my feelings without even realizing. I have beautiful, bright prints that I have taken on really good days, and this was taken on more stressful and not so good day. The message of feeling kind of dry and lifeless is definitely relayed through the photo. I believe this will remain one of my favorites as it has the strongest message.
